Day by day
We start our services with pick-up at the Manaus airport. Then, we are driven to Tefé Lake port, where our motorboat leaves for a trip of one and a half hours. Right after departure, we pass the Meeting of the Waters, where the Black River meets the waters of the Solimões River.
5Mornings start early in the Amazon! We will take a hike and we will be able to see many of the trees and Amazonian animals, with luck we will see the squirrel monkeys. During the flooded season, we use the same trails that we walked in the dry season, but we travel them in a rowing canoe!
We will go back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we head for our second activity of the day – traditional fishing for piranhas. In the flooded season, we go in a large canoe to a place where we will see the graceful dolphins of the Amazon.
Tonight, after dinner, we go on an adventure: a night trail or boat ride! In the dry season, we will enter the forest on foot and observe the dynamics of the night shift in it. During the flooded period, we go by boat, with the spotlights on and ears attentive to observe different animals and listen to very original noises from the forest.
After breakfast (with many of the local fruits and delicacies made from manioc) we set off on a trail. Today the walk (if we are in the low water period) is longer and we will be able to see many of the Amazonian trees and animals. During the high water season, we will also take a longer tour aboard a rowing canoe. We have a 14-track system, so we’ll always do different trails.
We return for lunch and relax for a few hours in the hammocks. We leave at 3:30 pm for a boat trip to Lake Mamirauá. It is our biggest trip in the reserve and you will learn more about the history of the area from the point of view of the local guides. On the way back, the spotlights are used to see nocturnal animals such as the huge caimans, which can be up to 4 meters long.
The first thing we will do today is to visit a local riverside community. A local guide takes us on a tour around his community and shows daily life by the river in a lowland forest – remembering that water levels can rise and fall about 12 meters each year, which requires a great adaptation of the local population.
In the afternoon, we leave at 3:30 pm for our last immersion in the reserve: a rowing canoe trip in the dry season and in the flooded season a traditional piranha fishing! In the evening, the biologists who conduct research in the area will introduce the world of science, bringing information about how scientific research helps the development of conservation strategies in the Reserve.
These are our last moments at the lodge. Breakfast at 6:15 am and we leave at 7:00 am for Tefé (for airport or hotel).

Amazon is incredible
By Katharina Bongaertzfrom NetherlandsMay 30, 2023Uakari Lodge is a special place in the middle of great nature. It’s secluded, in the 5 days I was there I didn’t see other tourists. It’s was the ‘ floody’ season so we could only be on boats and kayaks. You get a good perspective of how life is in this season. Because I like to be rather active I found it sometimes hard not being able to walk. On the other hand I’m really joyful of my Amazonia experience in this floody season, it made a special impression. I saw a lot of wildlife; various kind of monkeys, snakes and crocodiles. The sunsets and sunrises were amazing. They make lovely food and the accommodation is beautiful. Very interesting to learn more about flora and fauna in Amazonia!

It’s ‘full on’ – very hot and humid when we visited so it’s really shower, activity, shower, eat, rest, shower, activity, shower eat, shower, sleep! But many amazing sights and experiences. Jewson our main guide was fantastic. We stayed 4 nights – and did all the activities on offer.

Lodges are simple but clean, and comfortable and come with fans and mosquito netting over the windows. Also a small outside seating area is great for viewing the river and wildlife. Nice central bar/dining area and upstairs lecture room. Excursions on the water, hiking, and to the local community. It’s a great place, doing great work!By JBfrom BrazilFebruary 13, 2022My partner and I visited this ecolodge at the beginning of February for a four-night stay. The setting of the lodge is extremely beautiful and peaceful: you wake in the morning to the sound of howler monkeys echoing around the forest, with lovely views from each room onto the bend in the river where the lodge floats on the water. The rooms were simply furnished but clean and comfortable. Solar panels ensured that we could run a fan through the night, and we were able to keep our phones charged. (Though there’s no phone signal, there was a strong wifi signal throughout our stay.) The central building in the lodge is where we had meals, as well as an introductory talk after arriving, and a presentation by a naturalist on our final evening. Meals were tasty and filling, with a different preparation of fish and of chicken each day, along with rice, beans, salad and dessert, plus fresh juices. We visited the forest by small motorboat and on a canoe (paddled by our guide). We’d been expecting to take walks, but the flood season had arrived early and almost the entire forest was underwater. (Although they say that the wet season begins in March, if you’re visiting in January or February, you may want to confirm what the conditions are a week or two before you travel there, just so you know what to expect.) But gliding through the forest, effectively 20 feet up in the trees, was magical in its own way, and on the one afternoon when our guide helpfully took us to a bit of higher land in the forest where we could walk a trail, the mosquitoes were so intense that we were happier to get back onto the boat after 20 minutes! (Apparently mosquitoes are fewer in the height of the wet season.) Definitely bring repellent and wear long sleeves and trousers!The naturalist in residence spoke very good English, and our guide knew the English names of some of the animals we saw, but we mostly conversed with him in Portuguese. He was extraordinarily adept at spotting animals high up in the trees. We saw various monkeys (but not the uakaris, sadly), porcupines, sloths, and many varieties of birds. We highly recommend this lodge if you want to feel you’re really in the Amazon and to experience it in a way that is supportive of local communities (whose members work at the lodge, and which benefit from the income.) The people at the lodge are simply amazing. They put so much time into developing a sustainable truly eco-friendly experience to observe and conserve nature. We learned so much! Not only about the wildlife, but problems that the forest faces and some of the conservation efforts that are taking place. The guides were so wonderful! Our English-speaking guide and the rest of the crew made sure we were comfortable and attended to the entire time. They were all so knowledgeable about the forest. The food was surprisingly some of the best we had in Brazil! Fresh caught fish every day with a rotation of various delicious sides. The project (sustainable eco-tourism) and the people working there are special people. I want to thank a lot everyone for the big job they are doing there with passion and professionalism. Many thanks to the local guides, there are really good guys loving nature, they are all natives. Their culture is so nice and important: simple and strong people, always kind, friendly and working hard. Thanks to the cook (a different river fish every day). Thanks to the biologist team working there. It was really a very good stay, I recommend it to all the people loving nature, Amazonas and Brazil. Beautiful experience. I will come back!

But beyond the beauty, super kind staff and fascinating forest and wetlands, Mamiraua is a place to see to fill up on hope. More than wonderful

The entire team is excellent and each tour is more interesting than the other. It was a very special experience and it must be interesting to visit during the dry season.
